Lugarno (Old Forest Road Platform)
The water
Lugarno (Old Forest Road Platform) is a pier in Sydney, New South Wales. Get to know the water before unpacking: choose a target species, look at the tide and wind, and work out where you can comfortably fish.
Find the mark at 33 degrees 59.040 minutes south, 151 degrees 2.580 minutes east. These coordinates locate the fishing spot, not a safe access route.
Structure
The mapped structure is jetty pylon. The chart depth near the usual casting position is about 3.5 metres below chart datum, the reference level on a marine chart. The tide changes the actual depth during your session.
Lugarno (Old Forest Road Platform) faces south. Some shelter from north-east, east, south-east, south and south-west winds. Open to north, west and north-west winds.
Botany Bay / Georges River dietary advisory applies (PFAS). Check NSW Health/EPA limits before keeping fish. Access via Old Forest Road; parking is limited.
Target species
Yellowfin Bream (Acanthopagrus australis). Try worms on a light running sinker rig for a natural drift. Prawns are another option when the water is moving.
Dusky Flathead (Platycephalus fuscus). Work a paddle-tail soft plastic along sandy bottom. Small hops and pauses help you cover ground without racing past fish.
Mulloway (Argyrosomus japonicus). Fresh squid makes a tough bait. A running sinker can let it move naturally with the current instead of holding it rigidly in place.
How to fish it
Match the weight of your rig to the water in front of you. Start with enough control to present your bait or lure, then adjust when the tide changes. Watch where your line settles and leave space for other anglers to work their tackle.
Leave room for people walking along the pier and check behind you before casting. Plan how you will land a fish without climbing over the rail.
Use the live weather at Lugarno (Old Forest Road Platform) to understand the session: tide, wind, swell, air pressure, moon and water temperature belong together. The two coloured bands describe catchability and fishability. They cannot assess your footing, access or safety at the water.
